Patient First Celebrates 45 Years of Physician-Led, All-in-One Care Across the Mid-Atlantic

June 8, 2026 It was 1981 when Patient First’s distinctive green roof first appeared on the outskirts of Richmond, Virginia. The idea was simple, yet novel: to provide friendly, convenient, and cost-effective medical care, without an appointment, 365 days a year. In the 45 years that have followed, nearly 80 of those green rooves have popped up from Virginia to New Jersey, and they’ve expanded to cover even more services than just urgent care. Primary care and telehealth services also fall under that roof now, making Patient First one of the most comprehensive, one-stop medical centers in the Mid-Atlantic region.

As we approach a half-century of service, we reflect upon the things for which we are grateful.

We are grateful to our patients for their trust in us. We appreciate all those familiar faces who have turned to us over the decades. Many of those first patients who came to us in the 80’s have grown up and brought their own children to be seen by our providers. That singular level of trust is reflected in the nearly 40 “Best Of” awards we have been honored to receive across the region in 2025. We also appreciate each of the new friendly faces who walk through our doors for the first time to receive care, every single day.

We are grateful to our Patient First family for their hard work and enthusiasm. Our dedicated staff have committed themselves to our patients, and to one another. They have made this 45-year journey an evolutionary success.

As proud as we are of our history, we are even more excited about our future. We continue to explore new technologies to improve the quality of care we provide, new services for our patients, and new communities to serve. At the same time, we steadfastly commit ourselves to providing that same level of expert care our patients have come to know and expect, and to deliver that care in a clean, warm, and welcoming environment.

As it has been since the beginning, our name is our philosophy. Thank you for your support throughout these 45 years of putting the patient first.

All Patient First Medical Centers are open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. every day of the year, including holidays. Patient First provides non-appointment urgent care for routine injuries and illnesses, primary care for patients who do not have a regular physician, as well as telehealth services. Each Patient First center has on-site digital x-ray, on-site laboratory, and on-site prescription medication. Patient First currently operates medical centers in Virginia, Maryland, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey.
