Join us for a two-day, virtual, interactive conference, designed to take a look at race and gender in our current educational system and provide educators with context of the current state of Black boys in education in the United States and to offer new ways of seeing, hearing, and understanding those statistics. Given that the majority of educators are White women, it is important to examine cultural, racial, and economic differences Black males may bring to a classroom and how the classroom environment and teaching strategies can be strategically designed to ensure academic engagement, sense of belonging, and ultimately, academic success. Using The Guide for White Women Who Teach Black Boys co-authored by Eddie Moore, Jr., Ali Michael, and Marguerite W. Penick-Parks, as a framework for this symposium, attendees will gain a deeper understanding of how to teach diverse populations of students and to build relationships and connections with students who come from diverse backgrounds. Keynote sessions and breakout sessions on a new, interactive platform will allow for attendees to explore topics of their choosing, network with others, and learn in an innovative, virtual environment.
