SUMMARY:American Voices: United Through Song
DESCRIPTION:To honor America's 250th birthday\, the Naptown Philharmonic\, under the baton of Music Director and Conductor Anna Binneweg\, will present its season finale concert celebrating all-American music. The program ranges from classical masterpieces by Adams and Gershwin to traditional spirituals. Local celebrity John O'Leary will serve as the evening's emcee. The performance serves as the grand conclusion to the orchestra's current season\, themed American Roots: From Tradition to Today\, which has showcased the rich diversity of cultures that comprise the American musical landscape. In addition to showcasing the talent of the orchestra and our soloist\, the second half of this concert will mark the debut of the 50-member Naptown Philharmonic Orchestra Chorus under the direction of Jeanne Kelly. This concert will begin with classical American masterpieces and end with the Naptown Philharmonic's new chorus performing favorites the audience knows by heart from a "Porgy and Bess" medley to the rousing "America the Beautiful." The first half of the concert will include Gershwin's spectacular\, fiery "Concerto in F for Piano and Orchestra\," featuring acclaimed guest artist Thomas Pandolfi. The Washington Post has praised Pandolfi as "a master of both the grand gesture and the sensual line."
